To marry inside the Sé Catedral de Lisboa — the oldest church in Portugal, built in 1147 — is to stand at the very heart of Lisbon's history. When Xana and Meno chose the Sé for their ceremony on 22 August 2025, they weren't just choosing a venue. They were choosing to begin their life together inside eight centuries of love, prayer and Portuguese identity.
The ceremony was held in the nave of the Sé at midday, the cathedral light falling in warm shafts through its Romanesque arches. Xana arrived in a gown that moved like water; Meno stood at the altar, wearing the quiet stillness of a man who has been waiting a long time for this precise moment. The vows were spoken in both Portuguese and English — a nod to the two worlds this couple belongs to.
From the ancient stones of the Sé, the celebration moved to Quinta do Grilo, a private estate tucked into the hills east of the city. The quinta's gardens — old cypress trees, terracotta walls, the scent of jasmine in August heat — provided the backdrop for an evening that stretched late into the Lisbon night. Long tables under the pergola, Alentejo wine, the sound of laughter carrying over the garden wall.
What struck us most about Xana and Meno's wedding was the feeling of it. Not the logistics — though those were flawless — but the feeling: a couple surrounded by people who had crossed continents and languages to be there, all gathered to witness something that had been quietly inevitable for years.
