Sophia and James met in London but had always dreamed of marrying somewhere with romance written into the very stones of the place. When Sophia first saw the terraced gardens of Sintra — the moss-covered walls, the towering palace towers, the soft Atlantic light — she knew immediately.
We spent four months crafting every detail together. The ceremony was held in a private chapel garden overlooking the valley, with 85 guests seated on hand-hewn oak chairs dressed with pale blush and ivory florals. The reception followed as the sun dipped below the Sintra hills, casting everything in the gold light that only Portugal knows how to make.
The dinner was a feast: eight courses of regional Portuguese cuisine reimagined by a Michelin-trained chef. The wines were entirely from the Sintra appellation — a choice that delighted every guest and reflected the couple's love of place.
When Sophia walked down the aisle to a string quartet playing Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1, there was not a dry eye in the garden. By the time the dancing started — with a six-piece jazz band that played until well past midnight — everyone agreed: this was the most beautiful wedding they had ever attended.
