October in the Douro Valley is something else entirely. The harvest is over, the terraces are turning gold, and the light is amber from morning to dusk. Charlotte — a London architect — and Alexandre — a Porto-born winemaker — had wanted their wedding to feel like the valley itself: layered, warm, full of depth.
We secured the exclusive use of a 200-year-old quinta on a steep bend of the Douro river — a working wine estate with guesthouses for thirty, a wine cave for the reception, and terraces cut into the hillside that serve as natural theatre for a ceremony of 120.
The ceremony was held on the uppermost terrace at 5pm as the sun lowered over the valley. The couple exchanged vows as a Fado duo played softly — Charlotte's request, a nod to Alexandre's heritage. The dinner was held inside the wine cave, lit entirely by candlelight, the ancient stone walls absorbing the warmth of the evening.
Alexandre's family quinta contributed twelve cases of reserve wine from the year they first met. Every guest left with a bottle — a detail that Charlotte had kept secret from Alexandre until the farewell morning.

"We live in London and had never been to the Douro Valley. Lusitania Weddings made it feel like home. Our guests still talk about it. Truly the wedding of our dreams."
